Prom Day!!!

Prom day was finally here. My sister nervously sat while I did her hair. My mom and I agreed that after my prom, $75 wasn't worth a hair do. She was apprehensive about letting me do it but in the end she was very pleased.

Her directions were..."I want to look Grecian or like a cameo, half up and some down."

This is the style that followed.

The corsage and boutonnière were made from feathers, candy, and tulle. They came out unique and edgy but very professional.

It looks amazing with her dress.

Coming Soon: Kimono dress, homemade gifts.

Pre Prom Madness!!!

Just look at my table!!! Of course it sort of always looks like this...
But still, every free moment I have seems to be filled with a craft of some sort. Every time I finish something I get 2 more ideas!

I just had to top the feather earrings!! This necklace is made from pieces of an old shirt. Jersey is a wonderful material. It hangs and forms to the body, so upon changing it from a t-shirt to a necklace, I did not have to fight the material.

I crocheted 3 strings together, adding wooden beads between each line. My goal was to give it an earthy feel. The feathers and the gold chain, while still on the earthy side, made it look more put together.

This is definitely a piece that I have seen before, hanging on a display for 15+ dollars. I made this for about $1. The shirt was free, I only used a small fraction of the feathers and chain, and the wooden beads were recycled from an old project.

Coming soon: DIY prom, handmade gifts, more things to do with a recycled t-shirt, and a kimono dress with matching obi.

P.S. I apologize for the poor photo quality. I have been taking these picture with a camera phone. *fingers crossed* Better photos soon!

Feather Earrings

I could spend 10-15 dollars on a cute pair of feather earrings that everyone else has...or I can make them!

I bought a huge bag of feathers for the purpose of using them in a corsage and boutonnière for my sister's prom. (pictures of them will be up after April 16th) Even though I only need a few feathers, I seized the opportunity to explore different feather mediums.

Thus these super cute custom earrings were born!

I also made a headpiece from an ostrich feather and a vintage button. You can see in the close up that the button has started to patina, giving it a vintage blue color. I am not sure how old it is. I do know that it came from a button box that belonged to my great grandmother.

She would have loved to wear something like that.

Coming soon: Prom DIY! Also handmade gifts and some photography.

Easter 2010

For Easter, my family and I decided to celebrate the resurrection of our savior the only way we know how. At the beach! We pack a big lunch and set out early. My sister and I built this huge squid and tiki for the tourists visiting for the holiday. The locals were not at all surprise ;)

Monday was the very last night launch for the space shuttle Discovery. This is the very crude picture I took from a camera phone around 6:15am. The picture does not do it justice.

As the sun rose, the rocket fuel began to glow like a rainbow. Then it became obscure and took on the appearance of a dragon.

Up and coming: DIY sister's prom!!!!! It is the night of April 16th. I will have plenty of pictures of handmade items.

Halloween 2009

This is my sister's 2009 Halloween Costume. I made it 100% from scratch. This was the first time I took on something to this scale and was completely surprised at the result.

I think I got it pretty close to her sketch.

I apologize for the poor quality of the pictures. They were taken with a cell phone.
